A group of 24 students from Herningsholm Vocational College in Denmark recently visited Hudson Valley Community College and the Capital Region for a four-week cross-cultural experience program.
This is the fourth group of students from Herningsholm that Hudson Valley has had the pleasure of hosting. The Danish students arrived on campus on Sept. 30 and were accompanied by their lead chaperone, Steen Neerup Rørvang, along with a cohort of other staff and administrators.
The group of student visitors included 14 electrical construction and maintenance, and 10 CNC machinist students. While on campus, they engaged in a customized training program developed through the Division of Workforce Development and Community Education that allowed them to garner more experience in their respective fields of study. The group also participated in a variety of expansive, behind-the-scenes tours of local businesses and campus partners such as Siena College, Union College, the National Society of Histotechnology, the Albany International Airport, Global Foundries, the New York State Capitol, National Grid, Lynkwell, and NY Creates.
During their stay, the Danish students reveled in the experience and knowledge they were able to gain through their partnership with Hudson Valley Community College, and the impact they left on the campus community was significant. Through sitting in on classes, club meetings, Student Senate meetings, participating in a campus-wide soccer game, attending multiple sports games and practices, and overall submerging themselves in student life, the Danish students provided Hudson Valley students, faculty and staff with a culturally immersive global learning experience of unprecedented value to our campus community.
HVCC’s Office of Global Initiatives looks forward to expanding its relationship with the Herningsholm Vocational College in the future. Work already is underway to plan future visits, that will further increase the college’s global footprint, and more importantly, its global impact.
